Take a look at recently completed buildings in the city, and surprise yourself with creative design solutions. Expert guides, users and promoters tell you with on-site tours and lectures, the story behind the VERSE OOGST (fresh harvest) of the city! Blaak 8 is one of the buildings that has been recently completed and can be visited on the DAG VAN DE ARCHITECTUUR.

Office Building Blaak 8, in the centre of Rotterdam, at the intersection of Blaak with the Verlengde Willemsbrug, was recently inaugurated by Stedin. Blaak 8 is a design of GROUP A, in collaboration with Dreissen architecten.

The 22,500 sq. ft. building consists of a trapezoidal base of 6 floors and 14 floors of a high rise. The base follows the urban plan. From 18.5 m height, the building changes shape. The volume is rectangular and shorter. The facade of the tower from the 17th floor, is turned to the city. The stacked shifted building volumes provide a particular representation of the facade.

The structural logic of a tree serves as inspiration for the appearance of the facade. This structure was translated to the bearing of the façade of Blaak 8. The effect of the tree in the facade is enhanced by the roughness and subtle, glitter character of the concrete wall sections. Depending on the weather the facade is therefore always shown in a different way.
