Fabric ‘Rotterdam Street-Name-Map’ for Interior De Rotterdam

by Rosanne van Tilburg on September 25, 2013

GROUP A‘s interior design for the 40,000 sqm new municipal offices in De Rotterdam is partly guided by the municipal ‘Social-Return-On-Investment’ (SROI) initiative. This initiative also covers the intelligent re-use of municipal furniture, which translates into adopting clever design strategies to accommodate presentday needs. In this project, the Municipality of Rotterdam has sought to upgrade its existing office and conference chairs. Embracing sustainability and keeping close tabs on budgetary requirements, the practical implementation of ‘re-use’ is also intended to answer to the municipality’s initial SROI ambitions.

GROUP A, in tandem with Rotterdam based artist André Castro and leading manufacturer of design textiles Kvadrat, has especially developed a fabric to re-upholster all existing municipal chairs. The fabric’s design pattern depicts Rotterdam street names, a concept based on the Street-Name-Map project by the artist.

Renovation and re-upholstering of the chairs will be conducted in close cooperation with DAAD, Rotterdam’s Social Workshop, and is complemented by the expertise of small Rotterdam upholstery workshops. During this one year proces, it is estimated that about 2,000 seats will be renovated.

Hey Anna,
For now the fabric is exclusively for the municipality of Rotterdam.
But we want to have special Groupa suits/skirts made of the fabric for the opening. ;))
I will let you know if there is a chance that we will put it on the market. I also want some of it.
Hope you guys are doing good.
Greets, Birgitta
