On Wednesday, 21 December 2011, the Rotterdam Architectuurprijs 2011 is awarded. The prize is dedicated to Commercial Buildings and consists of two parts: the Professional Award, in the opinion of a professional jury and the Public Award, in the opinion of the citizen of Rotterdam. The winner of the Professional Award is RandstadRailstation Blijdorp and the Public Award was issued to office BP Rotterdam Refinery by GROUP A.
With great pleasure, the jury (Aryan Sikkema (vml. directeur Bouw Universiteit Utrecht), Robert Jan de Korte (SUMoffice), Jan Pesman (Cepezed), Annette Marx (Marx & Steketee), Dirk Somers (Bovenbouw architecten), has awarded the project RandstadRailstation Blijdorp by Gemeente Werken Rotterdam.

Alderman Karakus announced ​​on the same night the winner of the Public Award. Through the site of the Gemeente Rotterdam, the people of Rotterdam could express their preferences on one of 22 selected buildings. By as much as 945 points, the office BP Rotterdam Refinery deserved the title winner of the Public Award 2011.

The Rotterdam Architectuurprijs is an initiative of the Municipality of Rotterdam, aiming at stimulating the city’s already rich architectural culture. It’s a award for the client, architect and contractor of the building. As Astrid Sanson referred in her speech. “Rotterdam is therefore attractive in the inner city, residential areas and even in the harbor.” The organization of the award was in the hands of AIR, the architectural centre of Rotterdam.
