Heuvelink Award 2012

Blok 1, a design by GROUP A, has been nominated for the Heuvelink Award 2012. The beautiful student tower located in Presikhaaf in Arnhem is one of the eight finalists.

The Heuvelink Award, the architecture Award of Arnhem for best new building, was first organised in the nineties by newspaper De Gelderlander and the municipality of Arnhem to encourage the focus on local architecture.

This year theme is ‘residential architecture’. The Arnhem architecture centre, CASA is responsible for the organization. The welstandscommisie, the municipality of Arnhem and various corporations have been asked to nominate possible contenders, built from 2008 to 2011.

This has resulted in a longlist consisting of eighteen nominees. From this list the jury, consisting of Helen Casanova (Casanova + Hernandez Architects), Marc Reniers (M3H Architects), Cilly Jansen (Director Architectuur Lokaal) and Ko Jacobs (director of Academy of Architecture) have selected a shortlist of eight finalists. These are residential projects in Arnhem that surpass the function of merely dwelling. They convey meaning by the nature of their design, for those who live there and those who don’t.

The jury have already chosen a still to be announced winner. The public now have the opportunity to cast their vote for one of the eight nominees, on who should receive the public award. The voting is open from May 5th up to May 19th via the site of CASA.

The winners of the jury award and the public award will be announced during the Night of Architecture on June 7th.

Vote for Block 1!
